DC police officer indicted for insurance fraud

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WUSA9) -- A D.C. police officer has been indicted on charges of insurance fraud, attempted theft and related charges, according to the Office of the Prince George's County State's Attorney.

Officials say officer Aisha McCrary filed a false insurance claim stating that her work radio, a personal laptop and other items had been damaged during a water leak at her home in July 3013.

McCrary sent the adjuster a fraudulent letter on MPD letterhead from a tech supervisor that does not exist, officials said in a news release.

Officials say McCrary faxed the fraudulent documents a second time in August 2013 to follow up on the claim. One week later, she tried to retract the claim, according to a news release.

Investigation determined that McCrary's radio had not been damaged and that she had not reported the damage. The radio had been working since 2011, officials said.

McCrary is scheduled to be arraigned on March 21, 2014.
