Authorities: Maryland trooper, pedestrian struck by impaired driver

UPPER MARLBORO, MD. (AP) - Authorities say a Maryland state trooper and a pedestrian were injured when an impaired driver struck the trooper's car.

News outlets report 37-year-old Chris M. Dent was charged with DUI.

Trooper Solomon Flash was investigating a crash Sunday at 3:30 a.m. Flash blocked a lane of the highway with his patrol car to protect a disabled vehicle. Authorities say Dent struck the back of the patrol car, skidded off the roadway and struck 28-year-old Anthony C. Owelle.

Maryland State Police said in a news release that Dent was not injured in the crash. Owelle and Flash were hospitalized. Flash was released from the hospital Sunday.
