Man hit by 2 cars in Md. pedestrian collision dies

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (WUSA9) -- A 32-year-old man is dead after a pedestrian collision that happened in Takoma Park Saturday night.

Police said they were called to the 6700 block of New Hampshire Avenue for a pedestrian collision just before midnight. When they arrived they found Walter Franco-Chinchilla of Hyattsville on the road.

Franco-Chinchilla was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

The investigation shows Franco-Chinchilla was trying to cross New Hampshire Avenue when he was hit by a car. Authorities said he was not in a crosswalk.

Police said, a few moments later, another car hit him. The drivers of both cars stayed on the scene and are cooperating with investigators, police said.

Authorities said they do not believe excessive speed played a role in the crash.
