Swim coach charged with sex offenses has ties to Laurel

LAUREL, Md. (WUSA9) -- A swim coach already charged in Montgomery County for sex offenses and child abuse also has ties to Laurel, say Laurel police.

Fifty-three-year-old Christopher Thomas Houtt, who founded the Maryland Suburban Swim Club, rented the Laurel Municipal pool at 14403 Greenview Drive for the last three summers, according to Laurel Police Chief Richard McLaughlin. Police note that Huott's swim club practiced regularly at the location from May to August and had several Saturday swim meets there. His swim club has not rented the space for this summer.

On Thursday, we reported that Huott was charged with three counts of committing a third degree sex offense, one count of committing a second degree sex offense, and one count of child abuse.

The charges stem from a report in by a female who told police that Huott engaged her in sex acts on several times while he was her swim coach. According to police, the abuse started in the 1980's when the victim was 7 years old, and continued for years.

Laurel police say at this time there is no evidence of inappropriate behavior at the Greenview Drive Pool but they are urging anyone who may have had or known about any inappropriate contact with Huott to Laurel Police detectives at 301-498-0092.

Huott was released on $50,000 bond Friday.
