Student allegedly stabs peer at St. Mary's Co middle school

ST. MARY'S COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- A student allegedly stabbed another student in the hand with a safety pin at a middle school in St. Mary's County, the sheriff's office said. 

The stabbing happened at the Spring Ridge Middle School on Wednesday, St. Mary's County Sheriff's said. 

Officials said the investigation shows that a juvenile student stabbed a peer on the hand with a safety pin. The victim has minor cuts and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The investigation remains ongoing.  

Clarification: Initially the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office reported it was scissors and not a safety pin that was used to allegedly stab another student
