ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) -- Thousands of DC area residents enjoyed the annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade in Old Town Alexandria Saturday. While the atmosphere was County Cork, the sunny weather was anything but.
Before the parade, there was a display of vintage automobiles, including a 1903 Oldsmobile and a 1981 DeLorean manufactured in Northern Ireland. Dog lovers got a chance to parade their pooches; many of them were sporting traditional Irish outfits. Most folks seemed very happy to be out and about after such a gloomy and bitterly cold February.
But the sunlovers were out in force in most parts of the area. 9NEWS NOW found plenty of locals and tourists walking about at National Harbor just across the river from Alexandria. They were hitting the stores or just sitting by the pier.
Georgetown was equally filled to capacity with plenty of shoppers of all ages walking up and down M street and Wisconsin. Merchants were very pleased with the turnout.
