WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Are you trying to lose weight this year? You're not alone. For most people the number one resolution is weight loss, says registered dietician and Nutrition Editor at Washington Family Magazine, Judy Caplan. As we all know, sticking to those goals can be tough. How we stop returning to old habits?
Caplan says there are three keys to success:
1. Keep a food log. Write down food intake on a daily basis to help you stay aware of what you are doing and remind you of your goals. Don't stop until 6 months after you reach your weight goal.
2. Eat breakfast. Eating breakfast sets your blood sugar pattern for the day. You'll be less likely to crave sweets because blood sugar will stay level. Avoid sugary, fatty sweet rolls. Eat protein - grilled chicken, egg white omelet with veggies. High fiber/low sugar cereal with soy or almond milk also good choice.
3. Exercise at least 60 minutes 5 - 6 times/week Exercise raises your metabolism. Builds endorphins which leads to feelings of well-being which make you want to keep exercising
c. Burns calories
Caplan will host momslikeme.com this Wednesday, January 13th at the Commons McLean Safeway.
