(WUSA) -- A series of public forums will give you a chance to comment on the newly released draft strategy for restoring the Chesapeake Bay. President Barack Obama issued an Executive Order in May 2009 requiring the document. Officials from several federal agencies including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will take part in the forums.
The government will use your comments, state consultations and agency revisions to craft a final strategy for cleaning up Chesapeake Bay. That document is due to be released in May 2010.
The public comment period runs through January 8, 2010. If you cannot make it to one of the public forums, comments can also be submitted online by clicking here.
You can also submit questions about the strategy by recording a video that runs 30 second or less. Just upload that video to YouTube with a tag of "chesapeakebayeo". Some of these videos will be screened at the public forums; others will be part of an online question and answer session with federal officials in January.
