BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- Medical investigators are looking into four cases of H1N1 flu that have become resistant to Tamiflu. Three of those patients have died.
All were housed at Duke University Medical Center's Cancer ward in North Carolina.
Dr. Glorida Addo-Ayensu, Fairfax County's Director of Health, says there's no reason to worry.
"Influenza viruses are known to evolve every time and that's the reason every year we need a new flu shot," she said.
The same concept applies to H1N1 flu. Tamiflu is used to treat the virus at the beginning. But those who get vaccinated are presumably protected from the virus altogether.
But there is not yet enough of the vaccine to go around. So, Addo-Ayensu recommends everyone stick to washing their hands and covering their coughs, especially during the holidays.
