MORNINGSIDE, Md. (WUSA) -- Former Police Chief David Allen Eichelberger Jr. has been indicted by a Prince George's Grand Jury for allegedly selling a Glock .40 caliber pistol he had stolen from his own police department.
The five count felony indictment stems from an alleged transaction where Eichelberger sold the pistol and a shotgun to a Morningside business owner for $600 on July 1st. Eichelberger is accused of delivering the guns in his police car.
Eichelberger was fired in October shortly after his office and home were searched by the Prince George's County multi-agency gun interdiction squad.
The indictment alleges that Eichelberger possessed "a stolen regulated firearm that he knew was stolen."
At an October 1 meeting at the police department, Eichelberger "apologized and admitted that he did what he was accused of," according to court documents.
No charges were filed in relation to the sale of the shotgun.
Before becoming the chief in Morningside, Eichelberger was a police officer in Baltimore.
