LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP)-- NASA says a spacecraft that purposely slammed into the moon has turned up evidence of water.
Scientists have been analyzing a mile-high plume of debris kicked up by the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite last month after it crashed into a crater near the moon's south pole.
On Thursday, they presented preliminary data that show the presence of water in the crater.
Over the last decade, scientists have found some hints of underground ice on the moon's poles, but this is the best evidence yet.
