(USATODAY) -- Men who carry a cellphone in their pants pocket in the talk mode while using a Bluetooth device may experience decreased fertility, according to a study reported today by Renal and Urology News.
The findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in Atlanta.
"We found increased oxidative stress and a decrease in sperm motility," said investigator Ashok Agarwal, director of Reproductive Research at Cleveland Clinic, according to Renal and Urology News.
Agarwal said the pocket-phone-Bluetooth combo "may expose the human testes to high-power radio frequency electromagnetic waves when the phone is in the talk mode."
He tells the newspaper that further studies are needed, but meanwhile suggests that "excessive use" of cellphones mounted in the lower extremities should be avoided.
