Washington, DC (WUSA) -- Holiday cards will be going out soon and this season people will be able to stamp their cards with a zoo animal.
The Smithsonian's National Zoo is launching a customized conservation stamp series. There are seven animals featured on the stamps including the giant panda, Asian elephant, Panamanian golden frog, clouded leopard, Kirtland's warbler, Scimitar-horned oryx and wester lowland gorilla. These animals represent major science programs at the Zoo.
In order to celebrate these stamps there will be special events at the Zoo on Saturday, November 14th, from 10a.m. to 1p.m.
The stamps are available online for purchase at the Zoo's website and in the Zoo's gift shops for $20.95. Each sheet consists of 20 stamps featuring one animal. The stamps are equivalent to a first-class U.S. postal stamp.
Proceeds benefit conservation programs at the Zoo.
