WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Popular restaurant owner Nori Amaya has died at 38, a murder victim apparently strangled to death in her 16th Street apartment. Her body was discovered there Monday night.
Amaya and her brother ran Coppi's Organic Restaurant at 14th and U Streets, where shocked friends gathered Tuesday evening.
Workers at neighboring businesses were stunned at the news.
"Nori, ... we always help each other about work. If I needed any help, she is always there for me. If she needs anthing, I'm always helping her...She is a really happy person, and easy going," said Hasna Farouidi, who works at the Utopia Restaurant next door.
"It was shocking. I had goose bumps all over my body. It was bad, I mean who would do such a thing? I don't know what to say really. It is really shocking," Farouidi told 9News Now.
Amaya and her brother ran the restaurant together.
"Oh, a wonderful neighbor!. We work together... they are wonderful people. They are hard working people, like me. She's there every day. I saw here every day before I left. She's always there, she and her brother," said Jamal Sahri, who owns Utopia, the restaurant next door to Coppi's.
There have been no arrests in the case.
