TYSONS CORNER, Va. (WUSA) -- Fairfax County firefighters were able to rescue a family pet from a house fire in the Tysons Corner area Monday morning.

The fire was first reported at 9:11 a.m. in the 7900 block of Birnum Wood Drive.

Firefighters arriving on scene found smoke and fire showing from all sides of the structure.

Officials say fire and rescue personnel were able to pull two dogs from the burning house. Firefighters found one of the dogs behind a couch and attempted to resusitate the animal. Unfortunately the dog did not survive. The second dog was brought out of the home in good condition and did not need treatment.

The owners of the two dogs were not home when the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
