RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia's effort to teach Internet safety to children is getting a boost from a certain orange cat with a predilection for lasagna.

"Garfield" creator Jim Davis is scheduled to attend the Virginia Educational Technology Conference in Richmond on Wednesday to unveil a new online safety program that will be offered free to Virginia schools, children and parents.

The office of Attorney General Bill Mims says the state Department of Education worked with the nonprofit Garfield Foundation to draft the script and curriculum. Mims' office provided guidance and funding for the program.
