FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA) -- Fairfax police have four cases of bank robbery in the county this month and they believe the same suspects are responsible for two of the cases. Police are releasing pictures of the robbery incidents and asking for help in identifying the armed robbers, who in some cases wore masks over their faces.
Police Spokesman Officer Bud Walker tells 9 News Now, "They've struck more than once. They've displayed weapons. These are two things, two factors, that increase our concern."
Walker says Fairfax Police believe they are the same men who robbed another bank on October First. In photos of the two cases, one of the men appears to be wearing the same hoodie.
In the most recent incident, at the Wachovia bank in Burke, the two suspects ordered all the employees and customers into a single room.
"Probably they did this to control the folks in the bank," Walker says.
This is just one of several bank robbery cases police have been working this month. Police have also released a picture of a suspect in another case -- a robbery at the United Bank in the Fair Oaks Shopping Center on Tuesday. And police are also looking for the man who was photographed as he robbed a TD Bank in the Beacon Hill area on Saturday. There are links to all these pictures at the bottom of this article.
Officer Walker says "Until we actually catch the guys, we really won't know what's motivated them."
Officer Walker says bank customers in Fairfax should be on the lookout. "The advice is what we give for general personal safety. Be aware of your surroundings, look inside the bank before you go in." He's says if anything looks suspicious-- call police immediately.
Walker warns, "When you have bad guys moving innocent citizens around and waving weapons, this is of great concern to the police. Obviously the potential for tragedy is there. "
