Bethesda Woman, 53, Killed In Hit-And-Run Accident

CLARKSVILLE, Md. (WUSA/HOWARD COUNTY POLICE) -- A 53-year-old Bethesda woman was killed Saturday night in an accident in Howard County that left a 28-year-old man facing numerous charges.

Howard County Police said Mary Valenzuela of the 7900 block of Sleaford Place was driving a VW Passat southbound on Route 108 south of Guilford Road at 7:16 p.m. when it was struck in the rear by a southbound Volkswagen GTI. The Passat left the right side of the roadway and struck a telephone pole.

Valenzuela was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the VW GTI left the scene and was located a short time later by patrol officers. Ray William Wolfrey, 28, of the 12900 block of Route 108, Clarksville, was arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle while intoxicated. He was also charged with manslaughter by automobile, hit and run, driving while intoxicated, and driving under the influence.

The investigation is continuing.
