WASHINGTON DC (WUSA) -- Metro expects to finish its holiday weekend track work on time, so trains will be back to normal for the Tuesday morning rush hour. However, it will cause one more day of delays and detours Monday.

The Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter Station and Waterfront/SEU stations are closed. As a result, the Green line is operating in two sections: between Greenbelt and Gallery Place/Chinatown, and from Navy Yard to Branch Avenue.

For the rest of Monday, the Yellow line will begin at Huntington, but follow the Blue Line after the Pentagon. That will take riders past Arlington Cemetery, through Rossyln, and Northwest Washington. Yellow line trains will end at Stadium-Armory.

Metro will operate free shuttle buses through downtown Washington to make up for the Green line gap. Riders are directed to follow signs or ask station personnel for bus information.

According to Metro's website, crews are spending the holiday weekend replacing the entire rail interlocking (four switches) at L'Enfant Plaza. The work will close the Yellow line bridge over the Potomac River, which is part of the 14th Street Bridge complex.

The Blue, Orange, and Red lines are not affected.
