WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- DC Councilman Marion Barry is being treated for a blood infection and dehydration at Howard University Hospital.
His spokesperson confirms that the former four term Mayor is in the intensive care unit, but Natalie Williams says it's more of a precautionary measure so doctors can "treat his condition more aggressively".
The 73-year-old underwent a successful kidney transplant earlier this year. He has been readmitted to Howard at least twice since then.
DC Councilman Vincent Gray told 9NEWS NOW, "We're concerned about him."
Gray says he last met with Barry on Monday.
It was just after midnight Tuesday morning that Barry drove himself to the hospital where he was admitted.
