BETHESDA, Md. (WUSA) -- The relaxing, spa atmosphere at one downtown Bethesda salon was literally shattered quite suddenly on Tuesday afternoon, when a car being driven by an elderly woman came barreling right through the front of the shop. That driver and two employees of the salon wound up in the hospital.

Montgomery county police say it happened shortly before 3:00 p.m. at the Citrine Salon, located at 6931 Arlington Road in Bethesda.

Police say the Toyota Camry driven by the 82 year old woman
drove into a driveway leading to the office building, and according to witnesses, the car did not slow but rather picked up speed as it hit a pylon, traveled along a retaining wall, and then fully entered the building through the front of the Citrine Salon.
Emergency responders say it appears the woman may have hit the accelerator pedal instead of the brake.

The vehicle's airbag deployed and the woman driving, suffered some minor injuries. The driver was transported to Suburban Hospital. She was conscious and stable at the time of transport. A 25-year-old male salon employee from Washington, D.C. sustained a minor injury, and was treated at Suburban Hospital and released. A 24-year-old female salon employee from Gaithersburg was also transported to Suburban Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Montgomery county police are investigating the crash. No charges have been filed at this point.
