WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- An off-duty Prince George's County Detective encountered an intoxicated driver on the beltway between Branch Avenue and St Barnabas Road, and wasted no time getting involved.

Police say the man was swerving all over the road, and then slammed his fully loaded car hauler into the guardrail.

The detective approached the truck and quickly determined the driver was high. Police say PCP is suspected.

The detective was able to coax him out of the vehicle, and Maryland State Troopers swooped in to assist.

The driver for L & R Transport was taken to Southern Maryland Hospital for drug testing and detox. He's already been cited for reckless driving, and DUI charges are pending.
