CABIN JOHN, Md. (WUSA) -- The burglaries have been going on since March. They've happened in the parking lot across from Angler's Inn on Macarthur Boulevard.
Police say the suspect smashes a window and grabs a purse or wallet. He then uses the stolen credit cards before victims return from the trail. Lucille Baur with Montgomery County Police says the suspect will crush a window and grab valuables, but he only targets one car a day, and he does so sporadically.
Baur says, "He'll break in a few weekends in a row, then not for a few weeks. No one knows when he'll attack again."
Police are hoping someone will recognize the man seen in the photo to the right. The photo came from surveillance cameras inside a CVS and a Giant. That's where police say he allegedly used the stolen cards.
People who venture along the C & O Canal are urged to hide valuables, especially because this suspect has so far only broken into cars with valuables in plain sight.
One local biker even hides his removable bike rack in his trunk. When another couple parks here, they leave their GPS unit at home.
There are two lots there, and they are patrolled by Montgomery County Police and the U.S. Park Police.
