WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- A non-profit group that has been running a tennis and learning center in a poor section of DC has won a temporary battle to block their eviction by the Fenty administration.
Mayor Fenty won't say why he wants his recreation department to take over the facility which was founded and run by Cora Masters Barry, the ex-wife of Councilman Marion Barry.
Two DC Police officers showed up at the facility last month with an eviction order after the Recreation Wish List organization had allowed its corporate registration to lapse; a move the city says rendered their lease for office space null and void.
The judge today issued a temporary restraining order, keeping the non-profit in its offices at the learning center alongside the city's recreation department staff.
Another hearing will be held next month to determine if the non profit has a valid lease agreement with the DC government.
