SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA) -- The husband of Silver Spring murder victim, Simone White, is "not a suspect", according to investigators who are now appealing for tips in the mystifying case.

White's family traveled from Jamaica to appeal for help.

"She was loving and caring," said Keisha Chaplin who struggled to control her grief as she talked about her sister.

Chaplin said White was married to a man she did not live with. The marriage was a step toward citizenship for the Jamaican immigrant, her sister said.

Family members said there were no signs of threats or troubles in White's life. She worked two jobs and often watched relatives' children.

White was killed at 12:30 a.m. on September 9th as she walked from her car to her apartment in the 14100 block of Castle Blvd. in Silver Spring.

She was shot twice. Investigators believe the attack was targeted and not a robbery. White's car keys and her laptop computer were found with her body.

"We've had a lot of ideas, but none of them has panned out," said Montgomery County Police Commander Patricia Walker.

Walker said police are now seeking anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious.
