FREDERICK, Md. (AP)--The Republican front-runner for mayor of Frederick says he is withdrawing from the race five days before the primary election after learning his prostate cancer has returned.
Ron Tobin, an aide to Republican Mayor Jeff Holtzinger, told The Frederick News-Post Thursday that his health status is serious and will require intensive treatment.
Tobin says he was first diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer more than five years ago.
The announcement leaves downtown business owner Randy McClement and towing company operator Clint Hoffman as the two Republican mayoral candidates in the primary on Tuesday.
Three Democrats are also running to succeed Holtzinger.
