SILVER SPRING, Md. (WUSA) -- The 37-year old woman who was shot and killed while walking alone to her apartment building early Wednesday was not robbed, according to investigators.

Police identified the victim as Simone White. Neighbors said she lived alone and was frequently visited by friends or relatives with children.

White lived in an apartment in the 14100 block of Castle Blvd. in the Briggs Chaney section of Silver Spring.

White was shot at least twice in the upper body as she walked on a short pedestrian bridge spanning a gap between a parking lot and her apartment building just before 12:30 a.m. She died on the scene.

Police found the keys to White's silver Malibu along with possessions including a bag with a laptop computer with her body.
