ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- Student in honors biology at Rockville High School didn't mind listening to President Obama's speech. To them, it was nothing new.
"I thought it was like listening to a second dad actually," said Danyelle Smith. "A lot of what he said actually is something that my parents would say."
That's exactly why Principal Debra Munk decided to show it in school.
"I didn't want to make a decision until I had read the speech to make sure it wasn't a partisan speech; to make sure it really focused on education," she said. "I think it just really reinforces what we've been telling the kids all along."
Students who didn't want to watch the speech could go to the cafeteria instead, but the cafeteria remained empty.
"As far as a controversy, I didn't really see a controversy in it," said Alexander Choque.
"I'm at the age now where I can make a decision as to what I believe and what politicians tell me and what I understand. I'll be voting in the next election, so I wasn't worried at all about politics. I was just excited to see the President," said Richard Batzler.
