ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA/ACPD) - Arlington County Police have charged a Fairfax, Va., man for indecent exposure and are asking the public for information about other incidents where the same man may have approached children.
The Arlington Police Special Victims Unit has been investigating a recent case of indecent exposure near North Williamsburg Boulevard and North Sycamore Street. Police say, on August 26 at 8:00 a.m., a 10-year- old girl reported seeing a man exposing himself while standing near a vehicle. The girl informed her father, who later saw the same suspect in the neighborhood.
Police say the suspect may be exposing himself, while making it look like an accident. The suspect was wearing extremely short red shorts on each occasion. The girl's father contacted the police department and filed a report.
Based on the reports that the girl and her father both saw the suspect in the area, at the same time of day, on different occasions, police investigators conducted surveillance to see if the suspect would return. Undercover officers did spot the suspect on Monday morning, August 31, when he was arrested.
Richard Abner Simon, 45, of Fairfax, was charged with Felony Indecent Liberties, and has been ordered held without bond.
Police say other children or adults may have also witnessed this suspect acting inappropriately in the area. Anyone who has information about this suspect is asked to call the Arlington County Police Tip Line at 703 228-4242, or contact Detective Jim Stone at (703) 228-4245. Stone can also be contacted via e-mail at Jstone@arlingtonva.us.
