WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Two people, described by police as transgender males, were stabbed on Q Street N.W. Wednesday afternoon. One victim later died.

Metropolitan Police spokesman Officer Quentin Peterson tells 9NEWS NOW that the incident was reported shortly before 3 p.m. Officers were called to the 200 block of Q Street for the report of a stabbing. They arrived and found two transgender males in front of the building at 209 Q Street, both suffering from stab wounds.

Peterson says both victims were stabbed in the abdomen, and both were taken by ambulance to area hospitals. One of the victims was pronounced dead at Howard University hospital at 3:05 p.m.; the other victim is being treated at a local hospital. Police say the suspect, described only as a black male, is still at large.

Homicide detectives remain at the scene and the investigation continues.
