Woman Struck By Auto, Killed On Way To Church

GLEN BURNIE, Md. (AP) -- Anne Arundel County police say a woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while on her way to church.

It happened Saturday evening in Glen Burnie. Police say 59-year-old Mary Collins of Glen Burnie was standing on the sidewalk at the intersection of Baltimore-Washington Boulevard and Oak Lane NW when she was struck by a minivan. Police say the driver of the minivan lost control for unknown reasons and drove over the curb onto the sidewalk.

Collins was taken to a local hospital, where she died.

Police say the driver, Matthew Norwood, 26, of Linthicum, did not stop after the accidemt. Officers found Norwood and the vehicle later in the parking lot of a convenience store. Charges against Norwood are pending.
