CHANTILLY, Va. (WUSA) -- You wouldn't expect a crime like this to happen out here. Where fields run deep and homes are spread out five to an acre.
"It's so sad," says resident Jeanne Wade.
But here along Gum Spring Road in Loudoun County's Chantilly community, a women was raped Friday evening around 6:30. The 32-year-old woman had come to check on a cat in a relative's house when two men attacked her before she could get in the house.
"Two subjects approached her from behind. One held her down while the other sexually assaulted her. They fled, and she drove herself to the hospital," said Kraig Troxell of the Loudoun County Sheriff's Department.
The attackers took her cell phone so she couldn't call police. Instead, she did the next best thing. She drove to Reston Hospital. She's from Fairfax County and may be familiar with Reston.
But since Reston hospital does not have a a SANE (sexual assault nurse) program to treat victims of sexual assaults, she was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Detectives are hoping the evidence collected along with any tips from the public will help get two violent men off the street.
