WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- DC firefighters were on the scene of another two-alarm blaze Thursday evening.
At around 7:30 p.m. DC Fire and EMS received a call of a fire in a building at 329 Rhode Island Ave in Northeast DC. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they encountered heavy fire conditions on the top floor of what officials believe is a vacant, unoccupied residential building.
There is some commercial occupancy on the Fourth Street side of the building, but they seemed to be closed for the day.
Firefighters initially made an aggressive attack on the fire in the upper floors of the building. When firefighters were in the process of fighting the fire, there was a roof collapse which forced firefighters to a defensive operation in fighting the fire.
DC Fire and EMS spokesman Pete Piringer says there was ample water supply and pressure to fight the fire.
As a safety precaution, residents in surrounding row houses were evacuated.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
