WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA9) - Courtroom art might not be one of the numerous art genres you'll learn about in an art history course or observe in a museum, but it serves an important part.
Courtroom artists assume the roles as the "live-camera replacements" monitoring with their colored pencils and sketch pads the legal activities that take place behind closed doors of court hearings.
This is where William J. Hennessy Jr. enters the scene.
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, Hennessy's work has been featured all along the news services spectrum. Just to name a few: CNN, FOX, ABC, AP, Reuters, The Washington Post and News Week.
According to Hennessy's website, he has sketched scenes from historic court cases that involved the DC snipers, 9/11 hijacker Zacarias Moussaoui, former DC Mayor Marion Barry and the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
"I think of myself as much a journalist as an artist," said Hennessy, in an article with WTOP. "The aspects that are most pertinent to telling the story - that's what I try to capture."
Hennessy has made many television guest appearances including a recent appearance on the 9NEWS NOW at 9 a.m. He also made an appearance on American Morning with Miles O'Brien .
He lives with his wife and seven children in Ashburn.
