WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA/DDOT) -- The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has put a detour in place near the 2600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue because of a sinkhole. A square hole, approximately 4 feet by 4 feet, and 5 feet deep, has developed in the roadway near the bridge over Rock Creek.
Two lanes are open for inbound traffic between 28th and 26th Streets. Westbound traffic is currently being detoured on the following route: right on 26th Street, left on M Street and back to Pennsylvania Avenue.
DDOT crews are on the scene to make repairs. They're working to reopen at least one lane of eastbound traffic, but expect delays throughout the afternoon commute.
