LEESBURG, Va. (WUSA) -- A Leesburg daycare worker, entrusted to take care of children, has been indicted on child abuse and neglect charges.

9NEWS NOW obtained court documents that say 42 year-old Gurmail Grewal dipped a baby, she was taking care of, in scalding hot water while working in a home daycare.

Court documents say Grewal got scared and tried to cover it up by putting diaper cream and the diaper back on.
When the parents came to pick up the baby court papers say Grewal said nothing about the injuries. It wasn't until hours later that the parents found out while changing the baby's diapers.
It also says the child was so badly burned he may loose his genitals. He has already gone through four surgical procedures.

The Loudoun County Commonwealth's Attorney says he cannot comment on an ongoing case. Grewal's attorney says his client does not speak English and has a hard time communicating. She has no criminal history. Her attorney says he questions who was in charge of taking care of the baby since there were two adults working and multiple children at the home daycare. Her attorney says he expects the case to goto trial.

WUSA9 checked and found out Grewal is not a licensed daycare provider. But Virginia law does not require one, if you are looking after fewer than six children.
