
WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)--On Tuesday, June 9 Virginia voters will go to the polls to nominate their party's candidate for Governor, Lt. Governor, House of Delegates and some regional offices.
Polls are open 6am-7pm
Here is the list of candidates running in Northern Virginia:

Terry McAuliffe

This is McAuliffe's first run at public office.
Previously, he served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee from 2001-2005. During that time, he raised $578 million and the Democratic Party emerged from debt for the first time in its history
He also served as chairman of the 2008 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign.
Mcauliffe is known as a prolific money raiser for the Democratic Party. He once wrestled a live alligator for a $15,000 campaign donation.
McAuliffe grew up in Syracuse, New York. He started his first business, McAuliffe Driveway Maintenance, at the age of 14. In 1979, he received a bachelors degree from The Catholic University of America here in Washington, DC. After graduation, McAuliffe took a job in the 1980 presidential re-election campaign of Jimmy Carter, and at the age of 22 became the national finance director. After the campaign, McAuliffe enrolled in law school at Georgetown University Law Center, where he got his degree in 1984. McAuliffe then served as Chairman of the Federal City National Bank by the age of 30.
From 1980 to 1981, McAuliffe served as Deputy Treasurer and Director of Finance at the Democratic National Committee. From 1985 to 1987, McAuliffe served as finance director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. During the 1988 presidential campaign, he served as finance chairman for Dick Gephardt. During the 1996 election cycle, he served as national finance chairman and then national co-chairman of the Clinton-Gore re-election committee. In 1997, he was chairman of the 53rd Presidential Inaugural Committee.
He has five children with wife Dorothy: Dori, Jack, Mary, Sally, and Peter.
Brian Moran

He was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1996 until 2008, representing Northern Virginia's 46th district. He resigned to campaign full-time for governor.
In 2001 Moran was elected to chair the House Democratic Caucus succeeding Creigh Deeds who was elected to the Virginia State Senate.
Moran is the youngest of seven children. His elder brother is Jim Moran, who is a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia's 8th congressional district.
Moran went to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He then went to get a law degree from The Catholic University of America.
He clerked for the Arlington County court. After a year of clerking, Moran became a prosecutor in Arlington County for 7 years; working his way to Senior Assistant Commonwealths Attorney.
Then he ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in 1995. While serving in the House of Delegates, Moran served on the Transportation; Courts of Justice; and Health, Welfare, and Institutions Committees.
After September 11th, Governor Warner appointed Moran to the Secure Virginia Panel, dealing with issues of homeland security in the Commonwealth. He was also a member of Governor Kaines Health Care Reform Task Force in 2007.
After his election to the House of Delegates, Moran opened a law practice in Alexandria.
He has won the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Legislator of the Year award multiple times. He is also a recipient of the Tech-10 award from the Northern Virginia Technology Council. He also received the "Friend of Business" award from the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. Moran was named the 2006 Legislator of the Year from the Virginia Sheriffs' Association.
Brian and his wife Karyn have 2 children: an 8-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son.
R. Creigh Deeds

He has served in the Virginia State Senate since December, 2001--representing the City of Charlottesville and a district that stretches to the West Virginia border.
Prior to that he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1992-2001.
Deeds was the 2005 Democratic nominee for Attorney General of Virginia, losing to Republican Bob McDonnell by 323 votes. McDonnell is now the republican candidate for Virginia governor.
Deeds grew up mostly in Bath County, Virginia. After graduating from high school, Deeds enrolled at Concord College, graduating in 1980. Then he went on to Wake Forest University School of law.
In 1987 Deeds was elected Commonwealth's Attorney of Bath County.
He wrote Virginia's version of Megan's Law while serving in the Virginia legislature.
During Deeds' Senate tenure, some of the legislation he proposed that was enacted includes:
SB150 - Requires that direct recording electronic devices be equipped to produce a contemporaneous paper record of each vote that can be verified by the voter and used in recounts. (2006)
SB891 - Requires the board of visitors of each public two-year and four-year institution of higher education to provide reduced in-state tuition rates for the children of faculty and staff members employed by the institution, effective for the 2008-2009 academic year. (2007)
SB34 - Increases the mandatory retirement age for judges from age 70 to age 75. (2008)
SB669 - Permits ABC agents to check the national criminal database when conducting background checks on prospective licensees. (2008)
He and his wife, Pam, have four children: Amanda, Rebecca, Gus and Susannah.
Deeds recently received the Washington Post endorsement for Governor.

Jon Bowerbank

He announced Friday, May 15 that he is dropping his campaign for lieutenant governor less than four weeks before the June 9 primary. Bowerbank, a member of the Russell County Board of Supervisors, said he wants to spend more time with his family and his employees at his energy services company in southwest Virginia.

He recently served in Baghdad as a project manager for Defense Solutions Inc. and for most of his campaign was in Baghdad.
