WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- With a thunderous roar,
war veterans rolled into the nation's capital with a common cause.
Ted Glover with rolling thunder says, "It's to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and honor those who continue to do so."
Honoring veterans such as Nick Firth who served in iraq.
Nick Firth was in Iraq in 2006 and says, "I got hit by an IED that was buried in the center of the road, blew up underneath my feet, broke both my legs and shattered my heal and split open my skull. That started a long rehab process."
Nick would eventually lose his leg a year and a half into rehab and now is in his third year at Walter Reed Hospital.
Rolling Thunder not only wants to bring more awareness to POWs and MIAs this Memorial Day weekend but also highlight those who have returned home so all veterans get the help they need.
Ted Glover says, "There are a lot of needy vets who need financial help, emotional help, physical help and we keep the pressure on the governent for accountability of prisoners of war and missing in action that goes back before World War II."
For Nick, the Memorial Day Holiday is a personal one. He also hopes as people enjoy the long weekend they too take time to reflect.
Firth, "I would just like them to take a few moments to think of the people who made all this possible and enjoy it."
