STEVENSVILLE, Md. (WUSA) -- The MidAtlantic AAA has released encouraging numbers predicting a 4 percent increase in Memorial Day weekend travel in the Washington region compared to last year.
The travel group says gas prices are one reason why. Gas is now $1.50 per gallon cheaper than it was at the same time last year.
Meanwhile, Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan says the beach resort set records for crowds during April and May. The most recent weekend enjoyed 230,000 visitors compared to just 200,000 a year before.
The MidAtlantic AAA says there is high demand for shorter less expensive trips.
