WARRENTON, Va. (WUSA) -- Dick Marcinko has put his experiences with the Navy SEALS on paper with his Rouge Warrior series of fictional novels. The retired Navy commander watched closely as the hostage drama played out along the African coast.
Marcinko says it takes constant training to be able to make a precise shot from one moving boat onto another and kill the target. The SEAL snipers use a tremendous amount of ammunition in their training to be able to take shots under what may be less than ideal conditions.
Dick Marcinko founded SEAL Team Six, the Navy's first and only counter-terrorist command.
Marcinko says the concerns are probably warranted that killing the pirates might make it more difficult for the next hostage taking. But he has one word for the critics: "Tough".
Marcinko believes when the pirates lose a few pay days the dynamic will start to change and they will look elsewhere for the money. He also thinks the owners of the ships could invest in better security measures.
