WASHINGTON (AP) -- The president of Southeastern University in Washington is resigning at the end of the month.
Charlene Drew Jarvis is stepping down after serving as president since 1996.
The announcement comes while the small private college is on the verge of losing its accreditation this fall. The university is appealing the decision and hopes to merge with the nearby GS Graduate School.
Jarvis says the university's executive vice president, Elaine Ryan, could serve as the interim president. She says the next president would come from the graduate school, which was founded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
