FRONT ROYAL, Va. (AP) -- Authorities say a man who was fatally shot by law enforcement officers in Shenandoah National Park was a Fort Eustis soldier wanted in the shooting of a fellow soldier.

Virginia State Police said Spc. Christopher Lanum was killed Sunday after a trooper and other officers attempted to stop the minivan he was driving on Skyline Drive.

Lanum was wanted in the wounding of Spc. Mitchell Stone at Fort Eustis hours earlier.

After a chase, Lanum stopped. Authorities said shots were fired, but they didn't say if Lanum shot at the officers.

A passenger received minor injuries.

The trooper and park rangers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave with pay pending internal investigations.

Stone was in stable condition at a local hospital.
