WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)-- After more than 200 years, DC residents appear close to getting a Voting Rights Bill through the House and Senate. The measure would give the District one voting representative in the House and none in the Senate. Utah would also pick up one additional seat to almost guarantee the city's Democratic seat would be off set by the Republican Utah seat.
The Senate agreed, with bipartisan support, to end a filibuster of the bill today thus setting the stage for debate to begin. A floor vote could come in the Senate this week, and a house floor vote would come in a couple of weeks.
