
ROCKVILLE, Md. (WUSA) - Montgomery County Police have charged a Silver Spring woman with an attempted bank robbery in Gaithersburg. Kelly Phillips, 26, of was charged in the attempted bank robbery that occurred on Monday, February 9, 2009, in Gaithersburg.
Police executed a warrant on Thursday at the woman's home in the 14100 block of Heritage Lane in Silver Spring, and as a result Phillips was arrested and charged with attempted armed bank robbery and possession of a controlled dangerous substance (marijuana). She is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
The attempted bank robbery occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, at the Wachovia Bank located at 607 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg. Police say in that incident, a female suspect entered the bank, and passed a note to the teller demanding cash. She said that she had a gun, but none was seen. For unknown reasons, prior to receiving any cash, the woman left the bank and fled on foot towards the Holiday Inn.
Police say, since her arrest, Phillips has not provided the reason why she left the bank prior to receiving any cash.
