(WUSA) -- At Oakland Terrace Elementary School in Kensington, Maryland, acclaimed portrait artist Jason Swain has been painting an eight foot portrait of Barack Obama for an anonymous donor.
"He wanted to give it to Mr. Obama as a gift," Jason Swain said.
But the greatest gift here may not be for the president elect, as Jason chose to paint the portrait in the elementary school's cafeteria. By painting it there over the last four weeks he has been able to show the children how this art is created from beginning to end. Here the act of painting may become more valuable than the painting itself.
Jason Swain says, "The kids have been able to watch the painting from start to finish, and if we've inspired a couple of future artists I hope."
Principal Cheryl Pulliam remarked, "They really just see him as a special person with a lot of talent and they all are looking at art for themselves"
Student Taylor Forbes has been inspired as well. "I've' been working on this drawing of my dog, cause I'm in love with animals and dogs, so I'm hoping to become a little better but I can't do it like that."
Maybe not yet, but there's hope.
