Deadly Double Shooting In Adams Morgan

WASHINGTON (WUSA) - Metropolitan Police are investigating a double shooting that took place on a school playground in Adams Morgan Wednesday night that left one man dead.

Officials tell 9NEWS NOW the two men were shot in the 2200 block of Champlain St. NW, shortly after 8:00 p.m., on the playground of the Marie H. Reed Community Learning Center. A 21-year old man was struck in the chest and transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead around 11:30 p.m. Police later identified the man who was killed as Derrell Goins, of the 600 block of Edgewood Street N.E.

The second shooting victim, located near 18th Street and Kalorama Road N.W., received a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition.

Police say they are looking for two suspects. One of the suspects is described as a black male, wearing a blue puffy coat and blue jeans. The other suspect is reported to have been a black male wearing a blue sweat shirt. They were both last seen running through an alley on Ontario Rd.

Police do not have a motive for the shooting at this time and the identity man who was killed has not been released. The incident is under investigation.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at 202-727-9099. Metropolitan police offer a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide in the city.
