WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) - The Excel Academy, the first all girl public charter school in the nation's capital, opened its doors Wednesday in Southwest DC.
One hundred and twenty five girls, all from the District, enrolled in the pre-k and kindergarten classes which feature a curriculum emphasizing high literacy and communication skills and classrooms with two educators instead of one.
The school has hired many young educators from some of the best education schools in the country. They are exited to be participating in what appears to be a very unique educational initiative.
Many parents say the all girl environment should promote more learning and less distractions. The school is hoping to add a new grade each year which will be supplemented by the graduating classes until eventually starting an eighth grade class in 2016.
