(WUSA) - Gabe and MaryMargaret O'Neill are business partners. Ever since the day the 9 year old asked her software designer dad a simple question. "I just went up to him and I said, 'Daddy, I wanna do a website, is that ok?'"
MaryMargaret happened to read some stories about kids doing some incredible things in the community like the one story about the kid in California who started his own nonprofit; the girl locally who matched dogs from the shelter to people from craigslist.
That conversation led to a remarkable new website: kidsareheroes.com. The O'Neills find kids reaching out to help others: like seven year old Mercy, who cut off 13 inches of her hair for "Locks of Love" cancer patients.
MaryMargaret says, "People are really responding to it and I cant be more happy about that."
MaryMargaret even has a blog. She has a dream that one day we'll stop war, and that one day we'll stop drinking and drugs.
Gabe considers this all a teaching tool for his daughter. But both of them are really learning. He says, "Actually, we're partners. we have business meetings. We design things together as to what's gonna be on there." She said, "Well, there's gotta be stuff for kids"
But who's the boss? According to MaryMargaret, "I'm not the boss - we're both kinda the boss."
This dynamic duo even has time to take one of their beloved Bernese Mountain dogs to visit the sick and elderly - a program Gabe named Wags for Hope - that now has 100 volunteers.
Most days the two are recognizing heroes with kidsareheroes.com but today THEY are Everyday Heroes. Channel 9 thanks you for everything they do. We appreciate that. You get the feeling that any day these two are together - is a very happy Father's Day.
