BALTIMORE (AP) - A Maryland man has come forward to claim the $189 million Mega Millions jackpot he won last week.
The Maryland Lottery says the winner lives in Anne Arundel County and is choosing to remain anonymous. He claimed the ticket Friday alongside a dozen relatives. They dubbed themselves the "Lucky Family" and hid their faces behind signs for a publicity photo.
The winner is taking the cash option, meaning he will receive $86 million after state and federal taxes. He plans to share the winnings with his extended family and set up a charity.
The jackpot is the second-largest in Maryland history.
The man bought the winning ticket for the Oct. 1 drawing at a convenience store in Severn. The store gets a $100,000 commission.
