Candor is back in style.
That's what The Canyons director Paul Schrader served up at the Venice Film Festival on Friday when reporters asked why Lindsay Lohan was absent for the film's debut.
His response was essentially: Who knows? At a press conference for the film, The New York Daily News
Schrader then declared himself "a free man."
"For the last 16 months I've been hostage, by own choosing, to a very talented but unpredictable actress. She was supposed to be here today, she said she would be, but she is not," said Schrader.
So, where was Lohan?
Oprah, who is having a very good week, may know the answer. The media mogul green-lighted an OWN docu-series following Lohan's career and health recovery after her exit from rehab in July.
Or maybe the actress simply thought tweeting was enough. On Thursday she posted a link to a photo shoot she did for The Canyons in a see-through white bodysuit, followed by a message to her co-stars. "I wish I could be there to celebrate with you in Venice," she wrote. "Paul Schrader, @braxtonpope, @JamesDeen could not have done it without you."
So the only thing missing was ... the reason why she was missing.
